Uganda Netball Federation has handed veteran tactician Fred Mugerwa the mantle to help the national netball team (She Cranes) qualify for the World Cup.

Mugerwa together with his two assistants Sarah Namuddu and Harriet Kabuye were announced on Wednesday, October 6, 2021, by the Federation president Sarah Babirye Kityo and the offices in Old Kampala.

Mugerwa returns to the National team after he was sacked in 2015 in a dramatic turn of events despite qualifying the team to the World Cup.

“We came up with an independent body that selected the National team head coach from the many that applied for the job,” said Babirye.

“With Mugerwa, I am sure that we have got the very best for our team, but I appeal to him to mentor other coaches so that he does not retire with his knowledge,” she added.

Babirye handed Mugerwa the players’ code of conduct book, UNF Constitution and a jersey as a norm to usher in the head coach.

She has tasked Mugerwa and his deputies to see that Uganda returns to the World Cup and also be number one in Africa.

Uganda is currently ranked number seven in the World and third in Africa by the International Netball Federation Rankings.

Mugerwa beat former team tacticians including Vincent Kiwanuka, Nelson Bogere, Rashid Mubiru, Imelda Nyongesa, Hussein Kato and Martha Soigi to the She Cranes job.
