Heathens, Stanbic Black Pirates, Rhinos and Defending champions Kobs made it to the semifinals of the Rugby Uganda Cup sponsored by Rwenzori Water.
Heathens beat Toyota Buffaloes 22-8, Rhinos smashed Rams 25-5, Kobs were 34-11 winners over Rugby 7s champions Jinja Hippos while Stanbic Black Pirates saw off Plascon Mongers 33-23 at Kings Park Arena in Bweyogerere.
However, the fans and players will have to wait a little longer to know their team’s opponents in the semi-final because of the format adopted by the Uganda Rugby Union.
According to the draw adopted, a draw is held after every stage to know which team faces which, however, this format has been criticised that it can be manipulated to favour other teams.
“This is a knockout tournament. I don’t know why the chat is not drawn at once so that teams know who they face after every stage,” a coach who preferred anonymity queried.
Ivan Magomu kicked home three penalties, and two conversions, Nathan Bwambale, Joseph Kansiime, Alvin Rukundo and Moses Ziwa managed a try each for Pirates while Edgar Kairu managed a penalty and try, Otala Xaviour two tries, Adrian Waswa a penalty and Brian Kamanyire a conversion for the Mongers.
