New kids on the block Sipi Trekkers went against all odds to emerge the Elite Waterfalls T20 Women’s Title holders after condensing pressure from Itanda Kayakers with 21 runs in a final played on Sunday 22nd January at the Lugogo Cricket Oval.
The Trekkers led by skipper Janat Mbabazi were spurred into lead off Itanda Kayaker’s batting their 1st 6 overs halting their runs to score. Itanda Kayakers lost early wickets and failed to recompose through their batting department as Trekkers stretched them with their excellent fielding and bowling.
Sipi Trekkers acquired services of Rwanda’s Sarah Uwera among others while Kenya’s sensational right hand batter Veronica Abuga spurred Bujagali Rafters.
“The tournament first edition has been very successful and we intend to continue using it’s platform to improve the cricket product and provide a better performance structure for feeding National teams” Tournament Director Davis Karashani revealed.
Uganda Cricket Association Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Allan Mugume was impressed with the feat that will be one of the many structures the Association has initiated to fern out quality national team products. He also thanked sponsors Bat ball, Plascon, Role Telecom, Blink Logistics, Pepsi, Cinemax and Kenright for supporting Cricket growth and excellence.
