Central Women’s 15’s Fixture
Thunderbirds vs Avengers 2pm
Ewes vs Black Pearls 12pm
The Uganda Women’s rugby league enters round two on Saturday Febuary 18,2023 with traditional rivals thunderbirds taking hosting Entebbe-based avengers at Kyadondo rugby ground.
Table Leaders Black Pearls with 12 points has sent an early warning to Makerere-based Ewes to endeavor to show up because they have no interest in walkovers. It is going to be massive as Pearls seek to maintain dominance while Thunderbirds reclaim their place on top of the table.
Ewes on February 4th,2023 failed to show up for their fixture at King’s Park a move that highly affected coach-player Helen Buteme’s plans. Second-placed Thunderbirds with 10 points on log fell short of 2 points last weekend submitting to a Black Pearls 15-17 edge at the full-time whistle.
Thunderbirds host Entebbe Avengers at Kyadondo Rugby Club at 2pm in what is expected to be a distressing game.
Hosts Thunderbirds are expecting nothing less than a win and team skipper Agnes Nakuya says, “We take a game at a time and we do not undermine any team because our focus is a win.”
“I have a good number of rookies on my squad and rebuilding a team that will be a force to reckon with but as of the next game is to win,” she added.
Avengers with 5 points on the log and in third place has vowed to change the rhythm of play, “We had a false start against Black Pearls at home and this drained our A game plan. Then a couple of injuries on key players in our tie against the Thunderbirds did not help our progression. So, with just one win over Ewes, The two above us should know it’s not over and we have joined our puzzle to fit the second stanza” Avengers captain Peace Lekuru charged.
