Plascon Uganda on July 4, 2023, extended its partnership with the Uganda national women’s netball team, The She Cranes, with a sh100m sponsorship to aid the team’s preparations ahead of the upcoming Netball World Cup 2023 due July 28 – August 6 in Cape Town South Africa.
Plascon Managing Director Santosh Gumte while announcing the sponsorship, he highlighted that the partnership is geared towards uplifting women’s sports.
“In any investment and partnership, we engage, we purposefully ensure the women are also at the fore and we ensure they are well represented and supported, particularly in sports and have made the country very proud both in the past and recent times,” said Mr. Gumte.
Last year Plascon committed tangible support to the team preparing for the Commonwealth Games, and partly because of the gesture, the girls put on a praiseworthy show at the games.
The World Cup will not be any different. With this support, coach Fred Mugerwa promised a show that will make every Ugandan proud.
“Our target is to get out of the group stages and then fight to see that we better our rankings,” Mugerwa said.
The 16-team tournament has the She Cranes pool D alongside Singapore, Trinidad & Tobago and defending champions New Zealand.
The 2023 Netball World Cup marks the first time the tournament will be held in Africa and this year’s tournament is the third successive one Uganda will be competing at.
