USPA, Plascon partner in road safety

Leading paint manufacturer Kansai Plascon has joined the Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) in the road safety campaign.

USPA has brought on board both the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Works and Transport in this noble cause.

General Edward Katumba Wamala, the Minister of Works and Transport lauded USPA for the initiative and expressed the ministry’s commitment to be part of the cause.

“Road crashes are an issue that cannot be ignored.  4000 people perish annually in accidents and partnerships between Government and private sectors to raise awareness of road safety and to have discipline on the roads is much welcome,” Katumba said.

USPA president Moses Alysaid Lubega noted the need for cooperation to weed out these accidents.

“We all need to act responsibly and we shall continue to support the Uganda Police Force to enforce traffic regulations and continue to carry out awareness campaigns through the media, pop-up alerts,” USPA president Moses Lubega said.

Daniel Kayongo, Plascon’s marketing manager added as a brand they are excited to join USPA for such a noble cause and the company will committee sh30m for this year’s USPA road safety campaign.

The same was the Ministry of Health that will join the campaign.

“As Ministry, we appreciate the initiative. There is a need for the right attitude of all road users and we need to avoid drunk driving to reduce road crashes and provide the support needed especially in terms of training,” Aiyebyona added.

The USPA road safety campaign has been supported by Standard Chartered Bank and City Tyres.
